Key Responsibilities
- - Provide assigned students with a personal, professional relationship tailored to each student’s needs and requirements, and making sure students are looked after
- Support students through induction and key transitions during their university lifetime
- Provide advice and guidance in student’s learning and overall wellbeing and help them navigate their degree, School/Deanery and University
- Be a first point of contact for students when concerned about their studies, personal development, career, finance, health, emotional wellbeing, and personal life
- Provide help with navigating the ecosystem of support at the University, co-ordinate that support where required, and referring the students to the specialised services where appropriate
Key Competencies
- • HNC/HND or equivalent; plus typically a minimum of 3 years’
relevant work experience; or broad experience (typically a minimum of 5 years) acquired through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles.
• Knowledge and understanding of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student wellbeing and support
• Experience of working independently with the ability to prioritise workloads in the face of conflicting demands
• Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills
• Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills
Desired Qualifications
- • Scottish Mental Health First Aid training (or equivalent)
• Experience of using student record systems (ideally the University of Edinburgh’s EUCLID system)
• Previous experience of working in Higher Education
• Ability to supervise and develop staff
