    CEMVO Scotland is a national race equality intermediary organization with the aim of building the capacity of the ethnic minority voluntary sector and its communities.

About the vacancy

    In this role, you will have responsibility in providing consultancy support to environment sector orgnaisations to help develop actions that tackle racial and other intersectional inequalities. Thus, you will require experience in the development of race equality policies and practices that address racial and intersectional inequalities.

    You will also be designing and delivering race equality training to wide audiences so good training skills are required, along with the ability to organize and deliver events that share good race equality polies and practices.

Key Responsibilities

    To work closely with CEMVO Race for Human Rights Team (R4HR) to deliver consultancy support to 10 environmental organisations per year with the aim of supporting them develop and implement actions that address race / equality. This includes producing summary meeting notes that record discussion areas and agreed actions.

    To develop and deliver 4 race equality training sessions and/or webinars / workshops per year to environmental sector organisations, focusing on developing and sharing good race equality policies and practices.

    To develop promotional materials, channels and activities that will promote the Environmental Race Equality Programme to a wide range of environmental sector organisations – i.e. Government, Public, Statutory and Third Sector agencies.

    To provide support to environmental sector organisations in engaging with the ethnic minority environment network / EM groups and communities.

    To work with the Climate Change Co-ordinator in drafting responses to environmental consultations with a race equality lens, and attend policy tables to advance the race equality agenda in Scotland, particularly around climate change.

    To work closely with and take direction from the Climate Change Co-ordinator in ensuring successful delivery of project outputs and outcomes.

    To ensure monitoring and evaluation tools and processes are developed, and implemented to track and record success towards project outcomes

    To provide regular and end of year reports to the Climate Change Co-ordinator / CEMVO Chief Executive and to funders when requested

    To ensure annual and quarterly work plans are in place so as to meet outputs and outcomes of the environmental race equality programme

    To continually increase own awareness and knowledge of race equality issues, including current legislation, policies and practices

    To undertake other appropriate duties and tasks that will enhance the work of CEMVO Scotland as requested by the Chief Executive, including drafting of funding application.

Key Competencies

    ESSENTIAL

    · Extensive knowledge and understanding of “Race Equality Mainstreaming” and implementing of race equality within organisational structures and processes within Statutory, Public, Government and Third Sectors

    · Extensive knowledge and understanding of current equalities legislation, of Public Sector Equalities Duties, and processes / reporting cycles for mainstreaming reports and outcomes

    · Extensive knowledge of the race / equalities landscape, of policies and practices, of equality schemes, particularly relating to race equality within the environmental sector

    · Extensive experience in designing and delivering bespoke race equality training to a wide variety of audiences (e.g. Public Bodies) including undertaking evaluation processes

    · Good knowledge and understanding of community engagement standards and processes

    · Extensive background in race equality policy development, with the ability to respond to consultations, contribute to high level race equality forums and advisory groups

    · Good communication, inter-personal and networking skills

    · Commitment to the development of the ethnic minority voluntary sector, as well as good understanding of the issues affecting the sector

    · Demonstrated experience in thinking and working strategically to progressing race equality in Scotland

    · Ability to meet targets and deadlines to achieve project outcomes

    · Good organisational skills, including organising events and planning own work load

    · Excellent writing and report writing skills, including drafting of detailed briefing papers

    · Good presentational and public speaking skills

    · Ability to travel across Scotland to attend events, meetings, conferences, etc.

    · Able to be flexible in working occasional weekends and evenings

    DESIRABLE

    · Experience of undertaking consultancy work, especially in the area of implementation of race / equality policies and practices to address and improve race / equality outcomes within mainstream organisations

    · Strong knowledge and understanding of Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) processes
